My pieces are at times a formal exercise to use shape, line, light, texture, and stark contrast to form compositions that reference and continue a conversation between abstract expressionism and minimalism. I consider myself very much a student of artists, and I vaguely refer to their work on my own, while also attempting to place it in a contemporary context by adding undertones relating to social, political, and environmental issues in a balanced and nuanced way.

I form my compositions by drawing on ideas, figments, and scenes from environments influenced by man's hand and materials- construction sites, rock formations, cornfield rows, power lines, roads, asphalt lots, dirt, sand, and concrete.

As my work has progressed the direction it has taken has been more of a nuanced visual translation of the industries we ignore and the people we ignore using the materials we don't think about to comment on the invisible infrastructure of brown-ness in a society that swears it doesn't see color in polite company.
